Here is the MFT software with all the averages rc3.
This is a release candidate 3.
The time window for new functionality requests is closing in mid August. After that we will only fix bugs.

The next release will be in a year. So, check this version out soon.

Changes as of August 5th, 2022:

Added $\Delta L$, $\Delta a$, $\Delta b$, $\Delta h$ and $\Delta c$ averages

Hi!

Okay so I started playing with the update, thank you for sharing it.

1) It seem like you can’t plot more than one averaged aging curve at the same time, that would be essential here for comparison, especially to BW standards. We often just screen shot the aging graphs to share in reports. The little “eye” icon in the aging tab is great to show and hide curves, and it would be nice to have the same functionality.

2) Switching between averaged aging curves as it stands right now is glitchy. When the “original series” box is unchecked, all of the aging curves show up again.

3) Can we batch export the averaged data as .dat files individual files?

Hi!

1) The export is glitchy, I’m having a hard time exporting the data with time on the x-axis, it’s stuck on photometric.

2) is it possible to switch around the apply and cancel buttons? When I press enter it cancels on me and that’s a little frustrating.

3) is it possible to create separate averages all at once, for example, if I check BW3 and Pink, it will average them together when in reality I would like to create two averages, one for BW3 and one for pink. It is a little time-consuming. It would be great also if the naming is automated from the group name, that would make it more user-friendly as well.

Well, we have addressed most of the issues in the rc4 version of the software.

The changes as of 11/08/2022:

Improved stability
Multiple averages can be plotted at once
Tabs switching fixed
Enter key triggers “Apply” not “Cancel” in sample selection dialog

As a reply:
Ad 1) Data export options are available in Menu -> Options. There You may choose units that will be exported. Multi choice is possible. Values exported to file are independent of those on plot so changing units on Y/X Axis in Analytic Tab have no result on export.

Ad 2) Next release will have default selection of apply button.

Ad 3) That is a big change. Of course, if most users prefer such solution - we would realize it but it demands from user proper sample files management and makes impossible to average data from more than one group. We suggest to reconsider what would be the most convinient and efficient way to create averages and then we will provide changes.

Anna, to point (1), I figured it out now that the selection of the x axis is coming from the report graph options, and this might be confusing for the user.
So now when I select time, i actually get time on the x axis in my exported .dat file. if I select lux and time, it gives me both options for the x axis in the .dat file. So basically you are controlling the y axis export from the export options and the x axis from the report options, which is a little confusing. Something to think about.

as for the multiple averages, that make things quicker in terms of plotting all at once, and you’ll find that conservation professionals are usually very detail oriented in terms of data management 🙂 This would prove very helpful when examining many points of interest. Just a thought.

Great to hear that last update meets your expectations!
We do agree that unit selection for export is a little bit confusing. We are working on next update that is more clear for user. If you have any suggestions - feel free to announce it. One of our concept is to export csv file for averages that will always have all of the possible x and y units and the choice in menu would only correspond to pdf report. Please give as a hint if it would be ok or you would like to have an opportunity to choose units that will be exported.

We have no doubt that conservation professionals manage the experiment data perfectly. We only would like to note that the solution with multiple averages is not very flexible. You may not have possibility to average data from more than one group. User will need to keep in mind that data that will be averaged depends on the names of the samples (group name). Of course - if this is the most convenient for you - we can provide it.

We also have a concept to add to the software possibility to save the whole experiment state so later, all the collected data and user settings can be easily loaded. We would appreciate any suggestions to this functionality.

Hi Ana,

I think it would be great to have the units were chosen for the export because imagine you are batch importing for statistical analysis, it would be great to have a single export parameter for both the x and the y. The more flexibility we have in the export choices the better I always think.

As for the averaging, I think it would be great to create averages directly from the group names- I think you will find that most users would prefer that. I would never average different groups together, really. I might compare the DE and the SD between similar groups, which is a better way of doing it than outright averaging. so it would be awesome to have averages that are automatically named and that you can create more than one at one time.

Also, can you describe the experiment state function more? like metadata? Happy to jump on a call sometime 🙂

Oh! Also looks like the width for the analytics curves cannot be changed like for the trial curves, could we adjust that as well?

You mean the width of the selected curve on plot? You would like to see the automatic change on plot when selection of average name on the left has changed?

Oh I haven’t though of it that way, and that could be nice as well. But what i meant was changing the width of all of the curves changes when i change the width setting except for the averaged curves, which are a bit thin.

Yes, new release should be ready till the end of the month. Sorry for the shift. Despite the fact we are now focused on conference preparation, we made lots of updates in MFT and looking forward to complete them and release.
