MFT 3.1 - changes, new features

We want to invite all MFT users to propose and discuss new features that we may provide with the next release.
We also encourage comments on the current software functionalities - any problems or inconveniences? Feel free to propose desired changes.

Next release is planned in June 2023. The discussion is open till the end of March.

It would be good to get more information on selecting illuminants in the software and how this may affect the ageing curve and final results. For instance, the rate of change measured on BW1 samples using LED2 appears to differ depending on whether I have selected the D65 illuminant or the LED-B2. Is this something that other users have experienced?

Also, is it possible to save the averaged ageing curve as a seperate file which we can then use as a standard?

Selecting illuminant does affect the aging results. Color assessment depends on the measured sample reflectance and chosen illuminant (illuminating the same sample with different light sources results in different color seen by the human eye). Choosing the illuminant means assuming that the sample is illuminated with illuminant light (beside the fact that the sample reflectance is measured using LED source chosen in MFT). Color difference in time may differ for different illuminants.

We are now preparing some materials to explain this issue in more detail.

Sure, it is possible to enable choosing averaged aging curve as a standard - it is not available now but can be provided in the next release.

How do you get the reflectance graphs included in the exported PDF reports if you are generating a report from data obtained on previous days?

All the data that are collected during measurements are written to the files, including the spectrum of the sample and white standard spectrum, when one import previous data to the software - it is no problem to export PDF report based on this data.

Dear Z - Thank you - the instructions are very helpful to a point.
However, it is not clear why sometimes the reflectance value at a particular wavelength is present in the .rfc file, and sometimes the value is set to 0. Do you have any insight on what the criteria are for setting the value for a particular wavelength in the .rfc to 0?

Dear JP,
Glad to hear that the provided instructions are helpful.
To remove the ambiguity: The reflectance values exported to .rfc file are set to 0 when the reflected light intensity for a given wavelength is lower than a threshold. The threshold is set to 2 % of maximum value of the white reference spectrum. This algorithm prevents from calculating false high reflectance values in ranges where the signal is close to the noise.
